It's been a whirlwind the past few days and I'm back in Atlanta.
My Mom and I had a great time eating our way through Valencia, though now that I'm back I've realized all the places that I wanted to take her that we missed (Loving Hut Valencia and The Vurger are the 2 that come to mind immediately). Most mornings we began with a homemade vanilla soy latte and a smorgasbord of Violife cheeses, baguette, fresh veggies (avocados, tomatoes, cucumber, and olives), and occasionally vegan tortilla de patata con cebolla.
Typically after breakfast we would go out and do something--tour a school, go to the market, walk around the city. About mid-day we would come back to the apartment and relax. There was time for reading, chatting, laughing, and sometimes a good belly laugh. Though early for the Spaniards, we would typically eat dinner around 7:30 and spent most of the week's dinners at the apartment eating whatever sounded good while we were in the supermarket.
Thursday we had a completely empty day so we went back to Mercat Central to take some pictures of the gorgeous produce. Truly, I've never seen strawberries or mushrooms so large--the colors, shapes, sizes were all just stunning.
We also had our first taste of horchata (or orxata, if you're speaking Valencian) on Thursday. It was delicious and refreshing, as promised.
After we walked the market, we returned to the apartment for a few hours and then headed to the beach. It was a gorgeous, sunny, and relatively warm day, for February. We walked and walked and soaked up the sun and sights of the Mediterranean. It was a great way to end the trip.
It's been wonderful to see C and the boys, but people keep asking if I'm happy to be "home." The truth is, no I'm not happy to be back in Atlanta and I wish that we were all in Valencia now. I know that there are things that need to happen (like sell our house and get the boys registered for school), however I'm more convinced than ever that this is the right place for us.
I loved my time in Valencia: the city, the people, the lifestyle, the opportunities, and I cannot wait to settle into our new home with C and the boys.
Hi! I love how informative and great your articles are. Can you recommend any other blogs that share recipes of Indian Curries or authentic Indian cuisine? Thanks a lot!
